Safco Dental Supply was founded in 1945 by Harold Saffir, a determined innovator with humble beginnings. The son of immigrants, Harold put himself through college and earned a Chemistry degree from the University of Chicago. While teaching high school full time, he launched a small business to manufacture and distribute dental anesthetics—planting the seeds for what would become Safco.

In 1975, Harold’s son Ken joined the business, bringing fresh energy and a bold vision. His passion for direct mail marketing led to the first Safco catalog in 1989, just 36 pages featuring under 2,000 products. By 1992, Ken became president and set his sights on something bigger: making it faster, easier, and friendlier for dental professionals to find what they need.

Ken focused on building lasting relationships with top manufacturers, expanding Safco’s offerings, and assembling a team known industry-wide for exceptional customer service. His dedication to simplicity, honesty, and customer-first thinking helped Safco grow into the trusted partner it is today.

From our 160,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility just outside Chicago, our team of dedicated employees serves dentists across the country with over 30,000 products—available online and in our 500+ page catalog. We stand by straightforward pricing, friendly service, and high standards—especially when it comes to our private label products, which we trust enough to use on our own families.

More than 80 years later, the values Harold instilled still guide everything we do. And we’re just getting started.
